Martyn LeNoble (b. April 14, 1969, Vlaardingen, Netherlands) is the original bassist for Porno For Pyros and bassist for Jane's Addiction from 2001-2002. Martyn (pronounced Mar-tan) also played with Thelonious Monster, The Cult, Scott Wieland, and Class of '99.
Departure from Porno For Pyros
Martyn LeNoble left Porno For Pyros during the early stages of recording the album Good God's Urge. The main reason for his departure was for him to address is growing drug habit. After remaining out of sight for a while, Martyn came back to the musical world as a member of The Cult. He would later leave, rejoin and then re-leave that band. His final departure from The Cult was to join Jane's Addiction for their 2001 tour. He remained with Jane's Addiction into 2002.
Departure from Jane's Addiction
Martyn was abruptly fired from Jane's Addiction on July 28, 2002 by Perry Farrell immediately following the band's performance at the Fuji Festival at the Naeba Ski Resorty in Nigata, Japan. Perry had had already lined up Martyn's replacement, Chris Chaney, who played the encore of that show.
The public was told was that Martyn left for "personal reasons" implying that drugs may have been a factor, as they were with his departure from Porno For Pyros. This wasn't the case since Martyn had been clean for several years. Martyn stated that he doesn't even really know why he was fired. Many believe that the band's then producer, Bob Ezrin, pushed Perry to do it. Martyn and Bob Ezrin had butted heads on the creative direction during the recording of the Jane's Addiction album Strays. Martyn retains some writing and performance credits on the Strays album.
