Shadow of Jane's Addiction

Porno For Pyros suffered from living in the shadow of Jane's Addiction far worse than Deconstruction. A number of factors attributed to this. The most obvious was the mere presence of lead singer Perry Farrell. Additionally, Porno For Pyros had a similar sound to Jane's Addiction. Not helping matters at all was the fact that nearly half of P4P's debut album was made up of unreleased Jane's Addiction songs.

Cover Controversy

Porno For Pyros debut album was delayed due to some controversy regarding the album artwork. The original concept artwork contained what was perceived as highly controversial figure tattooed on the arm of the devil character riding the rocket on the released cover. On his arm was a Jewish star of David with a swastika inside of it. While this combination of images is actually a sign of universal peace, and the swastika is an ancient symbol that dates back well prior to Nazi Germany that even appears in Native American artwork, Warner Brothers was afraid of the potential fallout from a misunderstood interpretation of the symbol.
